At Pau Hana Surf Supply, quality and sustainability is integral to our mission. We design our paddleboards for durability, ensuring they withstand the test of time and reduce environmental impact.
After your session, give the board a quick rinse with fresh water and let it dry before storing - especially if you’ve been in saltwater.
Store your board in a cool, shaded place, out of direct sunlight. If possible, keep it flat or on its side using proper board racks.
A little care goes a long way - treat it well and your board will stay solid, smooth, and ready for the next paddle.
Built around a lightweight EPS core and sealed with epoxy resin, this construction keeps the board strong without adding unnecessary weight. Strategic bamboo reinforcement is added in high-load areas to increase stiffness and durability where it matters most, while our high-density Corebrace™ system supports all installed components for long-term reliability.
A self-regulating Goretex vent plug helps manage internal pressure as temperatures and conditions change, keeping the board performing consistently whether you’re paddling cool mornings or warm afternoons.
Performance Metrics
The Oahu feels calm and familiar the moment you step on. It’s the kind of board that disappears beneath you, letting you focus on where you’re going instead of how you’re standing.
Smooth, relaxed, and efficient. The Oahu cruises easily on flat water and feels stable enough for beginners while still being enjoyable and responsive for experienced paddlers.
Its balanced shape handles gentle current and mild flowing water with confidence, making it a great option for mellow river paddles and exploring chill waterways.
Stays composed when light texture or wind shows up. It’s not a surf-specific board, but it handles coastal paddling comfortably and predictably.
The fin setup offers a nice balance - tracks straight without feeling locked in, and turns easily when you need to adjust course.
Stable enough for first-timers, forgiving when balance isn’t perfect.
A soft deck pad and predictable shape make it easy to stay out longer.
Cruising, surfing, foiling, family paddles, kids, dogs - it adapts without fuss.
Designed for everyday use, not just ideal conditions.
Ricochet™ Technology:
Built using Pau Hana’s Bamboo Sandwich construction, the Oahu blends natural strength with everyday durability. A real bamboo veneer is layered into the board’s structure, adding stiffness, impact resistance, and a smooth, responsive feel on the water.
This construction helps the board hold its shape under pressure while keeping the ride lively and predictable. It’s tough enough for regular launches, beach landings, and day-to-day paddling, without feeling overbuilt or heavy. It’s made to be used - not babied - so you can focus on the water, not the board.
During a trip to Hawaii's North Shore, I had the opportunity to use Pau Hana's 10'0" Oahu Paddle Board for both paddling and foiling at Turtle Bay. The board's versatility truly impressed me. On calm waters, its stability and smooth glide made for a relaxing paddle among the sea turtles. When I transitioned to foiling, the integrated mount made setup easy. We used the Bimini with the outboard motor to generate speed, allowing me to get accustomed to being airborne with the foil. The experience boosted my confidence to try foiling on smaller waves in the area.
Jen Chrimes - Pro Kayaker
The Oahu reflects Pau Hana’s belief that paddleboards should be approachable, reliable, and built with care. Designed in California by paddlers who actually use their gear, it’s made to support years of sessions - not just a single season.
It’s a board you can lend to a friend, paddle after work, or load up for a weekend adventure without worrying about babying it.
"When I started designing the Oahu, my goal was simple: create a board that’s stable and fun to ride in any condition. Whether it’s launching on Tenaya Lake in Yosemite at sunrise, catching waves in Waikiki, or paddling in Belize, this board thrives." - Todd Caranto, Pau Hana Founder

Absolutely. While it’s beginner-friendly, the Oahu isn’t limiting. Experienced paddlers appreciate its smooth tracking, predictable handling, and relaxed feel for casual sessions, fitness paddles, or easy exploration days.
The Oahu is designed for versatility. It performs well on lakes, calm rivers, bays, and coastal water with light chop. It’s ideal for recreational paddling, fitness cruising, and general exploration.
Yes. The stable platform and generous deck space make it well-suited for paddling with a child, dog, or extra gear thats not too heavy. Just be mindful of overall weight limits and conditions.
Let's talk about what makes the EPX Oahu special in terms of construction. The EPX version isn't just about durability - it's about achieving the perfect balance of performance, weight, and refinement that makes this board sing in the conditions it was designed for. Think of it like a high-end surfboard - it's built to perform beautifully and look stunning while doing it.
The EPX construction uses sophisticated fiberglass composite materials combined with natural bamboo reinforcement through advanced lamination techniques. This blend of modern and natural materials creates something special - the bamboo doesn't just add stunning aesthetics, it integrates with the fiberglass to enhance the board's overall strength and performance characteristics. The result is a lightweight, responsive board that delivers exactly what you want in surf conditions or during balance-focused activities like yoga. While it's certainly well-built and will last for decades with proper care, its primary focus is on performance and aesthetic refinement rather than pure durability.
Each of our construction methods serves a specific purpose:
If you're looking for a board that can handle more punishing environments, consider our models with Ricochet Technology, VFT construction, or Solo Tech Ultralight Inflatable Dropstich. The Oahu EPX is designed to be the board you take care of, not the one you bang around. It's for paddlers who appreciate the nuances of a well-crafted board and understand that treating it with respect will reward them with years of high-performance paddling and timeless style.
This quality is reflected in our REI assessment scores, where we received top marks for materials selection and manufacturing practices. But more importantly, it's proven by the many Oahu EPX's still performing beautifully after years of dedicated use by paddlers who understand and appreciate what this construction is all about.
Our commitment to environmental responsibility isn't just talk - it's independently verified through REI's rigorous Product Impact Standards, where we've earned a position in the top 10% of outdoor brands. What does this mean in practical terms? We've achieved this through specific, measurable actions:
Manufacturing Excellence (10/10 score):
Supply Chain Integrity (9/10 score):
Materials Management (7/10 score):
Product Longevity (7/10 score):
Perhaps most importantly, we approach sustainability from a practical paddler's perspective. We believe the most sustainable board is one that doesn't need to be replaced every few years. That's why we focus on building boards that last, using construction methods and materials that stand the test of time. Our Oahu EPX isn't just built to perform - it's built to become a lasting part of your paddling journey, not another piece of gear that ends up being replaced.
This commitment to quality and sustainability isn't just good for the environment - it's good for you as a paddler. When you choose a Pau Hana board, you're investing in a product that's been vetted through some of the industry's most stringent environmental and quality standards, backed by real data and independent verification from REI's comprehensive assessment process.
